ABSTRACT

Bleeding from the genital tract can be a physiologic process – normal menstruation – or can be a consequence of a pathologic process. Dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB) is included in a group of disorders known as abnormal uterine bleeding, in which frequency and/or quantity differ from normal menstrual bleeding.

Concept DUB could be defined as a variation in bleeding without existing disease or pathologic condition or pregnancy.1 To study DUB, we distinguish ovulatory and non-ovulatory bleeding. If regular menstrual bleeding exists (i.e. every 21-35 days), cycles are usually ovulatory, but if bleeding is irregular or non-cyclic, anovulation or oligo-ovulation is occurring.
