Renal cancer was predicted to be the seventh leading cause of cancer in men and the 12th leading cause of cancer in women in the US in 2006, accounting for about 3% of all cancers in American males, with a male: female ratio of about 1.7.1 An estimated 38 890 new cases of renal cancer were expected in the US in 2006, with 12 840 (~33%) deaths.1 Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) accounts for 85% of all renal cancers.
