ABSTRACT

To understand the surgical bypass procedures needed to restore seminal tract patency, it is critical to have an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the efferent ductal system. Mature spermatozoa are produced by the seminiferous tubules and released into the tubular lumen. This drains into the rete testis, an area within the posterior mediastinum of the testis where a network of anastomosing ducts consolidates into the efferent ducts. The efferent ducts merge into the head of the epididymis to mark the beginning of the epididymal tubule.
