ABSTRACT
To understand the luteal phase, one has to understand the follicular phase and the transition from the follicular to the luteal phase. The fundamental principle of follicular development and the luteal phase is the two-cell-twogonadotrophin theory.1,2 This theory states that there is a subdivision and compartmentalisation of steroid hormone synthesis activity in the developing follicle.
