ByJohn Campbell
Pages 11

On June 16, 2011, a bomb-laden car joined the motorcade of police Inspector General Hafiz Ringim as it entered the imposing national police headquarters in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, despite allegedly tight security. The driver detonated his explosives, killing himself and five other people, destroying 30 to 40 nearby vehicles, and severely damaging the building. The inspector general only survived by chance. Boko Haram, a radical Islamic group that has terrorized the country’s northeast, claimed responsibility.
