ABSTRACT

New knowledge is forever appearing in the field of public health, so practitioners have to be prepared to work throughout their working lives to ensure that they remain up to date. A particular tenet of public health practice is the application of the ‘evidence base’ to all that we do, and it is therefore incumbent upon all of us to keep up to speed with emerging evidence and, indeed, to contribute to the published evidence by participating in research whenever feasible, and by writing articles for publication in peer reviewed journals.
