ABSTRACT

This chapter asks whether there are any particular reasons for the growth of the high-tech activity in the Sussex region, an area that purports to hold a concentration of innovative multimedia activity. The findings of the chapter are primarily based on the findings of a project on UK electronic publishing undertaken by the author in 1996 and early 1997, entailing a case study of thirty-one small and medium-sized electronic publishing companies. All thirty-one firms, drawn mainly from the Sussex region, including London, were interviewed for an average of three hours.2
