ABSTRACT
There’s an element of scholarship about [adaptation] because you’re observing how another writer has plotted and how his mind works, the different paths he travelled. But there’s also an element of looking at the original from a different perspective, showing how it would read in a different culture but with the same essential problems—the universality of a Russian play that can be adapted to the Caribbean.
