ABSTRACT

In this chapter Quinn makes a strong case for the power of games to provide engaging learning while simultaneously building confidence and motivation. This, he claims, is because learning games provide meaningful contextualised practice. He sets out a series of design criteria that must be met in order to produce effective learning experiences. This chapter is a rich repository of practical advice and guidance for the budding game designer, and there are a number of useful flow charts and schematics to help clarify the design process.
