ABSTRACT
A US Marine is photographed in close-up during the November 2004 attack on Fallujah, Iraq. It is a shot of an exhausted, bloodied soldier, cigarette in mouth, one mission completed, others to follow. His eyes are steely and unfocused. Though looking towards us he is not looking at us. His exhaustion denies us any direct address.
