ABSTRACT

The term pornography has been loosely applied to many forms of explicit and nonexplicit depictions of human sexual activity. For some, pornography is defined as depictions that elicitor areintended to elicit sexualarou s a l in the viewer (Brown and Bryant, 1989). Others have suggested that depictions be labeled pornographic only if they include degrading and dehumanizing portrayals of women, not simply if they are sexually arousing (Dines, Jensen, and Russo, 1998). The definition of pornography depends on the culture of the communities, and the debate continues over what constitutes pornography and what constitutes art.
