ABSTRACT

In the ‘revolutionary times’ [of contemporary art production] … from the 1950s to 1970s … all artists were keeping an alert or even critical eye upon mass media. Now, however, all exhibitions have collusion with mass media, and Biennales have formed a broad tacit agreement with mass media in the ways of creating gimmicky news and popular idols. The news media has become an effective force to intervene in and transform the art; contemporary art is increasingly reduced to a raw material of the fashion industry and the mass consumption culture … Contemporary art’s inclination to systematization, fashion and collusion with news media is a problem more serious than art capitalization.
