INTRODUCTION TO PART I: Perceptions and representations

ByNils Markusson, Simon Shackley

The theme of perceptions and representations centres on social science research on diff erent actors’ – both lay people’s and experts’ – perceptions and understandings of CCS technology, that is, how they interpret the technology and construct representations of it. These perceptions and representations matter for decisionmaking and for our understanding of the actions of the actors involved with CCS, as their actions will be shaped by how they perceive the technology, its potential benefi ts and drawbacks.
