ABSTRACT

The overarching purpose of Chapter 15 (Greenhaus and Singh) and Chapter 16 (Laschober, Allen, and Eby) in this volume is to describe the processes by which negative and positive nonwork relational exchanges influence worker attitudes and behaviors. The present chapter’s purpose is to integrate and expand on their compelling ideas into a cohesive framework and to push forward research. To begin, I highlight points of similarity and difference. Then, I define nonwork relational exchanges, provide an overview of the framework, and describe each of its components. Finally, I discuss measurement and analytical considerations and directions for future research.
