In 1631 the poet and playwright Ben Jonson published the text of Love’s Triumph through Callipolis, a court masque that had been devised and staged by himself and the architect and stage designer Inigo Jones. Theirs had been a long and fruitful collaboration, going back to 1605, which had given rise to a sequence of lavish court entertainments.
