ABSTRACT

“Take a look at this,” my father said, handing the Daily Colonist across the breakfast table. The morning paper was turned to a page of advertisements for movies at the local theatres. I looked at them and then at him, a little puzzled. There didn’t seem to be any pictures that my sisters and I would be allowed to go to on Saturday. He pointed to a small article sandwiched between very big ads for two movies we definitely wouldn’t be able to see. “Tarzan Author Dead at 73” the headline read. The story briefly outlined the career of Edgar Rice Burroughs, focusing on the two dozen Tarzan of the Apes novels.
