ABSTRACT

As we stated at the end of Chapter 1, no one book can ever hope to cover everything about a subject in a single volume. As also outlined at the start of this book, marine and coastal management includes numerous and distinct areas of expertise. This volume serves as an introductory reader for students, and sets out to select from the many subjects those that we consider highly relevant to developing a fundamental knowledge and understanding about our marine and coastal environment. A deeper understanding of specific subjects, topics and issues would subsequently come from a wider reading of the literature, practical exposure, and continued education.
