ABSTRACT

Climate change is a central contemporary issue facing governments across the world (Garnaut 2008, Stern 2006). Governments that, in recent decades, have begun to embrace sustainability principles in their policy and regulation now also need to integrate climate change adaptation and mitigation into policy frameworks. Many governments seem to be grappling with this challenge, despite the commonalities between sustainability and climate change. Getting these policy frameworks right is critical to providing the best possible outcomes for environments, societies and industries.
