ABSTRACT
Paul is widely and correctly viewed as a revolutionary thinker within Christianity, but the postulates he begins with belong to the bedrock of experience within the movement. In his letter to the Galatians (written around 53 CE), Paul subscribes to the commonly agreed sense of baptism, and goes on to demonstrate that a close connection between baptism and prayer was presupposed:
When the fullness of time came, God sent forth his son, born from woman, born under law, so that that he might redeem those under law, in order that we might obtain Sonship. And because you are sons, God sent forth the Spirit of his son into our hearts crying, Abba! Father!
