Closed-kinetic chain evaluation of ankle joint proprioception in athletes with functional ankle instability S. AMINIAGHDAM AND S. SHEIKHESMAEILI

After an ankle sprain, 40% of injured athletes report residual disability involving the sensation of giving way or the feeling of instability at the ankle, this disability is referred to as Functional Ankle Instability (FAI) (Sekir et al., 2007). The FAI is defined as the giving-way sensation, weakness, more pain, or loss of function at the ankle than before injury. Individuals with functional ankle instability are more susceptible to new ankle ligament injuries than others (Freeman et al., 1965; Hiller et al., 2006).
