Actually a range of indicators have been employed to quantify workload in team sports, and they have been shown to be highly correlated with one another (Alexiou and Coutts, 2008; Borresen and Lambert, 2008; Foster et al., 2001; Manzi et al., 2010; Impellizzeri et al., 2004). The main indicators in this regard are those based on heart rate: 1) the TRIMP method, proposed by Bannister (1991) and based on the duration of training, the maximum heart rate, the resting heart rate and the mean heart rate during exercise, and 2) the Edwards method (Edwards, 1993), which sums the values obtained in each heart rate zone.
