ABSTRACT
Childhood is tremendously varied from the sheltered pre-schooler of Western nations to the maimed street beggar or gun-carrying ‘freedom fighter’ of less industrialised nations. There is surprisingly little material on the nature of childhood among different cultures within Western nations.
