ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to explore the contribution that an understanding of total quality principlescan make to the management of the curriculum in the primary school. A central thesis of the chapter is the need for an integrated and holistic view of learning and managing. Previous chapters in this volume have drawn attention to some of the tensions in developing and implementing the relationship between the role of the co-ordinator and the actual experience of children as learners. Total quality is offered as a means of integrating the traditional components of managing with the requirements of effective learning.
