ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we examine change and continuity in global careers in Japan by considering the effects of cultural, economic, and social backgrounds on global careers. To begin with, we consider the situation and current changes in global careers in Japan. Then we focus on expatriates, foreigners working within Japan, and third-country nationals working for Japanese multinational companies as global careers. We examine the challenges they are facing by showing case studies. Finally, we discuss change and continuity in global careers in Japan and draw some implications about the future development of global careers for individuals and Japanese companies.
