ABSTRACT

The Republic of Mauritius comprises the island of Mauritius, the island of Rodrigues and a number of uninhabited islands (such as the Agalega Islands and the Cargados Carajos Shoals) and it claims sovereignty over the Tromelin Islands and Chagos Archipelago, which includes the Diego Garcia atoll. For the purpose of this study, unpopulated islands have been disregarded, as have the Tromelin Islands with which sovereignty is contested with France and the Chagos Archipelago.
