Approach to climate change adaptation in the Port of Rotterdam
The Port of Rotterdam (PoR) is, like the greater part of the Netherlands, vulnerable to climate change. More specifi cally, the expected sea-level rise and changes in the discharges of the rivers connecting the port to its hinterland have an impact on the port. Port planning is long-term planning. Investments in port infrastructure have a long lifetime and a long pay-back period. It is therefore very important for the port to anticipate the potential impacts of climate change.
