ABSTRACT

Undergraduate psychology students are often dismayed by the apparently simplistic view of human behaviour which seems implied by experimental-style research designs incorporating the use of univariate statistics. These statistics are, of course, very often appropriate tools for the exploration of vital and fascinating aspects of behaviour, but an implication that this is ‘all’ quantitative analysis has to offer may lead to disillusionment, and the misconception that more complex psychological models can only be formulated within ‘qualitative’ approaches.
