ABSTRACT
Mrs Andrew’s car draws into the school playground. Resisting the temptation to boil the staff-room kettle, she goes immediately to her junior school classroom. There is some last-minute preparation for the day’s activities to be done, but first she needs a quiet half-hour to complete the orders for resources for the next year. The school secretary has been pressing her for these for the past week and she needs to check a few catalogue numbers and then to ensure that she has not overspent.
