ABSTRACT

This chapter concerns a teacher who may be from the school, but is not necessarily in it all the time; who may be working in the local community, but is not necessarily from it. She (and it is often ‘she’ in a primary school) is variously described as the Home-School Liaison Teacher (HSLT), Cultural Liaison Officer, Community Education Teacher or Outreach Worker. The designation depends on the Local Education Authority involved, and there may be slight differences in the way each of these professional roles will be carried out.
