ABSTRACT
It will be rare for students on teaching practice to have any contact with governors, and the first contact that most new teachers have will be at formal interview when they may hardly be able to remember names, let alone functions and responsibilities. The purpose of this chapter is to demystify the role and to indicate something of its growing significance as a result of recent legislation.
