ABSTRACT

The previous chapter initiated the process of constructing a new model of urban development, using urban infrastructure as the main driver of development in the secondary towns. Covering the three spheres of the physical environment, the economy and human society, together with the issue of affordability, this model provided the overarching framework within which urban infrastructure functions. That framework provides the rationale for the green urban infrastructure model that will be developed here. The next step is to understand how the drivers then relate to the central portion of the diagram in Figure 8.3, which is concerned with the three components of urban infrastructure: the value-based surround, the technology and the organisation framework.
