Planning Your Teaching

One of the main ways of ensuring that you will feel confident when you go into the classroom is with thorough planning and preparation beforehand. Calderhead, after researching the ways in which teachers planned and prepared lessons, said that ‘survival planning’ is not to be recommended and that ‘[e]ntering the classroom with a well-thoughtout plan probably provides most teachers with greater confidence and leads to a more relaxed lesson’ (Calderhead, 1994, p. 9).
