Continuing Professional Development

ByGwyneth Owen-Jackson

On completion of your initial teacher education course you will have been assessed against the competences or standards currently in operation, and so can be confident that you have the ability to be an effective teacher. You will also have ideas on areas where you feel you still need to develop. In England and Wales this will be formally written down in your Career Entry Profile. So, during your first year of teaching (the probationary period in Scotland is two years) you will have guidance on how to continue with your professional development. This chapter will consider what you can do to help yourself in this process, and directs you to resources that will help you.
