ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the topic of learning. It is not specifically concerned with learning to read, a matter postponed to the next and final chapter. But this chapter is relevant to the manner in which children learn to read, because this is the same as the manner in which children achieve mastery of spoken language and, even earlier, begin learning about the world in general through their first elaborations of a theory of the world.
