ABSTRACT

Swedish journalists are working in a media environment shaped by mixed ideological heritages. While journalistic traditions have been inspired by liberal ideas of press freedom and freedom of expression, they also have existed within a media system with linkages to different political groups in society and wide acceptance of state activities in the media sphere (Weibull 2007). Thus, Swedish news practices have developed under the cross-pressures of liberal ideas about freedom and social responsibility and ideas of diversity and equality.
