The health care system in Germany

The rising power of the working and middle classes caused a lot of worries for the government, which sought to undermine the opposition to its rule by introducing a separate string of health insurance for salaried employees in 1901. After World War II, the old health care system of the Weimar period was reinstalled in West Germany, with sickness contributions now equally shared between employees and employers, and so was its representation (see, for example, Aspalter, 2001; Altenstetter, 2004).
