ABSTRACT

Jay1 is happily indifferent to reading and writing-the former is boring, and the latter a chore-but he remains good-humoured about our puzzling insistence that he do something about it. What really matters to Jay is doing scientific experiments, although he will concede that it is unfortunate that he cannot record his observations or explain in writing what he has learnt. Best of all, though, is going fishing with his grandad, in whose company Jay is an avid learner, having no problems tackling new vocabulary or complex skills.
