ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the successes and failures of Romano-Libyan and later floodwater farmers in the Tripolitanian pre-desert in Libya (Fig. 8.1). This vast region of rocky plateaux and incised wadis lies between the higher, better watered, Gebel Nafusa and the Mediterranean coastlands to the north, and the desert of the Hamada al-Hamra to the south.
