ABSTRACT

Students are given the opportunity to ‘interview’ a local ‘expert’ on issues, for example, relating to a local national park. The teacher supports the student in asking searching and detailed geographical questions of the ‘expert’, and therefore the teacher – in role – needs a very secure knowledge base from which to draw. The opportunity to ask questions is essential in geography as it is the basis on which geographical enquiry is founded. Such a technique can work at all levels of the curriculum and can also provide a vehicle for participation.
