ABSTRACT

Mr and Mrs Brown have a son, James, who has dyslexia. They are in dispute with the local education authority over special needs provision. The Browns feel that James should attend a special school outside of the local authority. The LEA suggests that James can be educated quite adequately within a mainstream school. Mr Brown has invited his neighbour Edward Adair to attend the mediation to assist them. Edward has no special knowledge of mediation or education, but he did launch a successful campaign against the local authority some years ago to have yellow lines painted around the school.
