ABSTRACT
The majority of opiate-dependent women in the Liverpool area are entered in methadone replacement programmes within specific pregnancy drug clinics (Siney et al., 1995) and attempts are made to reduce both polydrug use and total opiate dose using a stepwise approach in the second and early third trimester (Medical Working Group on Drug Dependence, 1992).
