ABSTRACT

There is no escape – the term ‘feminist’ is written across our foreheads – probably for the rest of our academic careers. We must admit, though, that we did something to deserve it. We are members of a rather easy-going academic organization. We have been doing research in the department for nine and eleven years respectively. During that time, we have felt that we were treated differently from our male counterparts. Our occasional claims of discrimination produced mainly angry and frustrated reactions and demands to prove our claims. The attempts to bypass our complaints made us angry and frustrated. All this operated as a catalyst for us to reflect on our own experiences and write a paper about the gendered discursive practices taking place in our own work organization (Katila and Meriläinen, 1999).
