ABSTRACT
Morocco-born Philippe Faucon is one of the French directors whose films have regularly documented various aspects of France’s postcolonial present and colonial past. He is particularly interested in the cultural consequences of France’s presence in Algeria and in the ways in which the definition of Frenchness is currently changing as it intersects with competing narratives of ethnicity, gender, and national history.
