ABSTRACT
Introduction Throughout this book teachers have been encouraged to recognise and develop the potential of their counselling role with students. However, there are a number of possible pitfalls. In this chapter, guidelines for professional practice in counselling are outlined, potential dangers for both teachers and students are highlighted, and various practical and ethical issues are considered.
