ABSTRACT

Popular opinion holds that research is conducted only in academia and other formal contexts. This is not so. It is conducted everywhere, in formal and informal settings, and can be done by anyone. Many people do research without naming it as a process. Growing fuchsias, watching how they grow, keeping notes of their progress, exhibiting them at a flower show, and talking about how you grew them is as valid a research process as formally testing drugs under laboratory conditions. There is nothing mysterious about doing research.
