ABSTRACT

Understanding gender1 and changing relations between the sexes is a necessary foundation for understanding this postmodern era. Philosopher Patricia S. Mann (1994) contended that our most socially significant transformations are occurring in the area of gender relations. This chapter explores selected literature of public relations over the last two decades from the basis of feminist phase theory to describe and to analyse that transformation. Looking at the role of women in traditionally patriarchal relationships should provide a solid basis for assessing the role of postmodern women into the next century.
