ABSTRACT

WriteOnLine The WriteOnLine Publishing Company was conceived in 2000 by a group of black British writers and artists as a forum for promoting their work and reaching a global audience. Using the Internet as a tool that does not require the approval of councils, publishers, production companies and the 'oneblack-writer-a-year' policy, Paul B o a k y e and others decided to take matters into their own hands. Initially a London-based black British project, WriteOnLine soon reached international participants and audiences. Boakye, Topher Campbel l , Terence Facey Ajamu and Charles Kwesi Sagoe were joined by writers, academics and artists from around the world, including writer and critic Bonnie Greer, actess and ex-EastEnders Joan Hooley Brooklyn performance poet Ayin Adams,

Radhika Gajjala, Elaine Starkman and others from places as varied as Costa Rica, Poland, India, Israel, the Philippines, Canada and the USA. WriteOnLine publishes electronic books in all genres and styles, and explores new approaches to new media and independent creativity from all sections of the multicultural international community. Its appeal to diversity and communication has made it popular with researchers, talent seekers and the general public. A collection of writing On the Move: the Net, the Street and the Community is one of their first projects.
