ABSTRACT

This chapter presents some new evidence on labour market flows. Using a unique panel dataset of firms, we investigate the job and worker flows at the lowest level of disaggregation at which they are both defined. The dataset is a panel of (currently) 32 quarters, includes births and deaths, and covers the universe1 of firms in Maryland. It includes data on employment growth (job flows) for each firm, but also data on worker flows. This allows us to address the distinct issues of job reallocation and worker reallocation.
