ABSTRACT
The conference from which this volume derives was first conceived in late 1993 and took place in May 1994. In identifying the future prospect it is pertinent to consider how relevant the aims of the conference are now; to identify recent changes in the higher education climate; and to summarize what has been learned and to chart what developments have occurred since May 1994. This will lead to a consideration of how the prospect may be identified.
