not the intention of this chapter to suggest

that all areas must be discussed with every

patient; rather it is the clinician’s

responsibility to judge, through assessment

and discussion with their patient, which

strategies are relevant and to provide

information and guidance in an appropriately

staged manner. Time and financial limitations

are often barriers to the management of

obesity; frequent but short visits with good

quality advice, the increased use of group

therapy and appropriate referrals to other

members of the multidisciplinary team (nurse,

dietitian, psychologist) may be helpful in

distributing the management workload.
